Put on a pair of thin gloves, dip a small amount ofpaint and then evenly daub on the pole. Remember not to daub too thick.Strictly speaking, if it’s cold or rainy, the temperature gauge and thehygrometer will be used to test if the weather that day will be suitable forthis process. If necessary, the dehumidifier or the air conditioner will beneeded to control the environment in the room.

When daubing to the plugging part, it needs twining3-4 circles of gummed paper to avoid the completed part being polluted. Becausethe silk needs repeatedly painting to be permeated in. Therefore, skilledcraftsmen always use such little tools in the making process.

Finishing 3 days’ filming in the room, listening to the songs of the insects out of the window, I feel like a relaxingrubber band. Shan Fu hammers his waist, asks me, “how do you feel?” I don’tknow how to answer him suddenly, shaking my head, I reply, “It’s not easy!”
The process of making is at a dash, without any stops.Shan Fu explains to me everything, including what he did, why he did so, andwhat was the advantage, etc, while he was making. It’s rich in content. And Ialso raise some questions when I couldn’t understand him, longing for hisexplanation.
When close to early morning, I raise the lastrequirement: “do you have some poles you made before? Please show me.” Shan Fuwalks to the storeroom under the stairs, takes out a pack of fishing rods...

Before leaving, I pack up my photographic equipment. We take a picture in front of the bamboo. We also sort the bamboo on the groundaccording to their ages, and write down the marks on them. I hope they canaccompany more fishermen, to spend their beautiful fishing life.
Time is always flying. Walking on the quiet street, nobody but the street lamp and my own shadow are with me. Thinking back fromthe first day of photographing to today, it is such a long process, with somany working procedures. If you count it strictly, the number is a lot bigger.Because of the different production techniques of different craftsmen, no oneknows exactly how many production procedures there are in the whole process. But, from the collection of the bamboo, to two years’ drying in the shade, itis a long waiting.
